If you have been into Birmingham recently then you cannot of failed to notice, that there are bear statues everywhere! The Big Sleuth arrived in July and will be around until 17th September. All the bears have been sponsored by local companies and decorated by local artists to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
On a sunny day a couple of weeks ago, Thomas, Daniel, my dad and I travelled into Birmingham to see how many bears we could find on The Big Sleuth Trail. I will be honest and say that I did not expect to find that many bears as Daniel does not like to walk that far and my dad is still on crutches from when he broke his ankle at Easter. We went to the The Big Sleuth shop first in the Great Western Arcade to get a map of where the bears were and some bear ears for Daniel. We then started tackling the bears around the Cathedral and Victoria Square, near the Town Hall.
After walking round for an hour or so, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that we had found 20 bears so we decided that it was lunchtime and headed to our favourite, The Stable for lunch. Once the boys tummies were full and Grandad Mick and Mummy had a couple of ciders, we headed out again and found a few more bears around New St station and Grand Central. We were really pleased to find the bear that the boys could sit in at New St station as it only been revealed a few days before.
We finished the day by finding 25 bears in total which are most of the bears in the very centre of Birmingham. Thomas and I went back again this week and found another 10 bringing our combined total up to 35. I am sure we will go into Birmingham again before the boys go back to school and preschool as we still have 65 bears left to find. It is a massive bear hunt LOL!
Thomas and I recently ran a 5k to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and you can sponsor us here
