Today we went and saw The Snow Dragon at The Patrick Theatre which part of Birmingham Hippodrome. The Snow Dragon is the tale of Billy the goat who has everything he ever dreamed of or so he thought. It is aimed at children aged three years and above. It was the first time we had taken Thomas and Daniel to the theatre and although I knew the running time was short (55 minutes), I was still a bit worried about Daniel’s attention span.
Upon arrival at the theatre, Thomas and Daniel were led to the free family craft area where they could decorate a tea light holder and they made a wooden reindeer too. We also ran into Lucy of Momma Mack and her family. We have known each other since Thomas was little and don’t get to see each other very often so it was lovely to catch up.
After doing the craft, it was time to head to the theatre and see the show. The Snow Dragon is performed by three actors with two of the actors (Amy Harris and Glyn Williams) playing multiple roles during the play while Billy the goat is played by Danny Hendrix throughout. The show is entertaining enough for all ages with humour included for the adults and lots of audience contribution for the children. Both Thomas and Daniel really engaged with it especially the wolf howling!
After the show, we were lucky enough to have a meet and greet with the actors and see the set. Thomas enjoyed going up on the stage and loved doing more wolf howling with the actors as well. They also answered his questions regarding microphones and the lights which told the production crew which microphones were live or not. Overall, we had an amazing time at The Snow Dragon and we would love to see a similar performance again. The Snow Dragon is in Birmingham until 7th January so why not book now and squeeze in an extra festive treat after Christmas. You will love it!
